Ten minutes north on the South Fork is Camp La Junta, a boys camp. Some of Camp La Junta’s property also coincides with areas known to flood, though several of its buildings are located in the lower-risk zone, or outside the flood zones entirely.

My route to burlesque was an unexpected journey. I never imagined surrendering to the wildest parts of myself, the depths of sensuality I didn't know existed within me. It was tantra, its very essence based on the dual principles of intimacy and energy exchange, that guided me there. Tantra taught me to truly understand and respect the ebb and flow of power, the pleasure in surrender. It's a dance, a ridiculously sexy, tantalizing dance that keeps pulling me in 🥵. The thrill that comes with the rising music, the echo of anticipation, the intense gaze of the crowd seeking, expecting, taking it all in 🎥. I found my sense of power in the very heart of surrender, and it's exhilarating. Even today, as a seasoned performer, I'm constantly redefining my relationship with submission, it’s very much a serenade that I keep revisiting, an act that never ceases to surprise, challenge, and empower me.

In the end, there's an unseen thread binding us all - performers, audience, lovers, humans - the unquenchable thirst for authentic connection, the thrill of exploring the hidden terrains of our desires, the infinite dance between power and submission we engage in every day. In burlesque, and in life, the art is in the dance, in the unveiling. And so, as I retire backstage, the applause still echoing, I hope to have given them something real, something raw, a piece of the dance that is uniquely mine. Groundwater makes up about 35% of the total water supply for Arizona, said Sarah Porter, director of the Kyl Center for Water Policy at Arizona State University, who was not directly involved in the study.

The study found groundwater tables in the Lower Colorado River basin, and Arizona in particular, have declined significantly in the last decade. The problem is especially pronounced in Arizona’s rural areas, many of which don’t have groundwater regulations, and little backup supply from rivers. With wells in rural Arizona increasingly running dry, farmers and homeowners now drill thousands of feet into the ground to access water.

Scientists don’t know exactly how much groundwater is left in Arizona, Famiglietti added, but the signs are troubling.

“We have seen dry stream beds for decades,” he said. “That’s an indication that the connection between groundwater and rivers has been lost.”
